How close to the sea are we?

Well, that's the sun going down on the coastal horizon this evening, viewed from the camping field with my phone camera on zoom.

On the right of the sun, you can see a ship. And on the left - the silhouette of one of the coolest little listed buildings in the area - the medieval Flimston Chapel. That's the last building you come to before reaching Stack Rocks and The Green Bridge of Wales - two of the landmark visitor attractions of this area.

The world is put to rights around a summer campfire!

We have just one camping pitch left during the school summer holidays - and it's right at the end of the summer.

One pitch is available from Wednesday 28th to Saturday 31st August, or to Sunday 1st September.

Suitable for a tent, campervan, motorhome, caravan - whatever you like to sleep in! You can hire a fire pit from us too 👌🔥

It isn't bookable via the website, so please get in touch directly if you're interested.

Sad to see so much tide-brought litter on Freshwater West this morning. It looked like this the whole of the way along the shoreline.

If you're heading out that way over the weekend, maybe take an empty bag or two to fill up.

Broadhaven South takes the crown as our campers' favourite beach, and with scenes like this, it's easy to see why.

The beach is about an hour's picturesque walk from the campsite, around Bosherston Lily Ponds, or you can drive less than 10 minutes to the beach car park (National Trust).

Just look at the size of that root! (See tiny person for scale!)

That's the epic root system of the huge lime tree that was felled across our lane by Storm Isha on Monday. It took a couple of its neighbours with it.

The National Trust wardens who helped us to clear the lane said the tree was probably about 250 years old and had about the biggest root they'd ever seen! One of the largest lime trees on the Stackpole Estate.

Awesome and sad all at once.

Thank you to the wardens and the farmers next door for helping us on Monday, and as of this afternoon, we are back up and running with campsite phone and internet - thank you for your patience!

The sea was pulling some truly CRAZY shapes yesterday!

Watched some very bold body-boarders and a hand-boarder taking on waves that seemed to come from every direction! Rather them than us!

See all that water in the valley behind the sand dunes at Freshwater West?

That's not normally there. Or at least, not in such great quantity.

We've had an awful lot of rain over the past couple of months. The 'lake' in the picture is the marshes of Castlemartin Corse.

The National Trust manages small footpaths through the wetland, and if you're visiting later in the season, it's worth a little wander (you might need more than waders just now!)

It's also worth a short wander up onto the Pembrokeshire Coast Path at the end of the beach, just to get to this view!

Saturday 24th to Saturday 31st August (fixed 7-night stay) - 1 pitch

The moment the sun rose above Church Rock and cast the most incredible fiery light onto the sand dunes. Never seen light like it, and the transformation was instant.

How lucky we are to have such an extraordinarily beautiful place just around the corner!

A frosty morning greets our glamping pod, which will soon be prepped again and ready for Easter.

It looks so little, but everybody says it's like the Tardis on the inside!

The pod sleeps 4, and we welcome dogs (max 2, and for your comfort - the smaller the better!).

It opens for the season on March 22nd and closes on October 20th.

A top tip for a spectacular sunset, not too far from us - Whitesands Bay, St Davids.

With the sun dipping down between the twin peaks of Ramsey Island on the horizon and the sun-kissed backdrop of ancient Carn Llidi when you turn around, it's really very special.

St Davids is great for a day trip if you have longer than a few days with us - it's about a 45-minute drive.

It's not a painting, but the artistry of moody skies and wonderful white horse waves at Freshwater West today, about a 15-minute drive from the campsite.

Nature is brilliant!

Found this cute little stack of sleeping slipper limpets at Llanreath beach in Pembroke Dock today. It looked just like a tiny sculpture.

At high tide the shells will separate as the limpets start to explore the rock pools, before finding each other and piling up again. Amazing!

Broadhaven South, one of our most beautiful local beaches, has been looking extra photogenic recently with all this rain.

When the water begins to flow again out of Bosherston Lily Ponds onto the sand, the stream becomes a river and with the addition of stormy high tides it gradually becomes a lake.

We'll keep you informed as it changes over the winter months!

Beautiful morning sunlight blazing into our one and only luxury glamping pod.

It's closed for the winter, but we are now taking bookings for stays from March 22nd through to mid-October 2024.

The pod is the only glamping accommodation here on site with its own shower and loo, and its own little kitchen area. With underfloor heating and a TV, it really does have all the home comforts!

It sleeps 4, in a main double and a double sofa bed, and we welcome dogs (they must stay on a lead on the campsite).

Now that's a great spot for a bit of winter sun-bathing!

St Govan's Chapel, tucked almost imperceptibly into the cliffs of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, really is quite extraordinary, and a must-visit when you stay with us.

But the scenery surrounding it on this stunning coastline near St Govan's Head is nothing short of epic.

That's probably why it was used in last year's BBC adaptation of His Dark Materials.

A low tide visit reveals huge deep purple rock pools, caves, massive fallen boulders and some crazy, other-worldly geological features.

It's bloody brilliant!

A giant barrel jellyfish, a mermaid's purse (with living skate or ray egg inside) and what we have since discovered is something called a fata morgana on the horizon at Penally beach, near Tenby.

A fata morgana is an optical illusion that occurs in certain weather conditions. At first sight, we thought the mega low tide had uncovered rocks way out at sea. Then we thought it was boats, then tanks...and then when we zoomed in on the photos, everything was floating above the sea! Crazy!

Coastal walks are different every time, there's always something of interest, but this one was exceptional!

Low tide scramble at St Govan's Chapel (more photos to follow as it's such a special place).

It's about a 10 minute drive from the campsite and always worth a visit, but especially worth it at low tide.
